How to take advantage of hypersensitivity?

Neuroscientists have discovered that part of our capacity for emotional sensitivity is connected to our genes. About 20% of the world's population may be "highly sensitive", that is, these people have a greater awareness of subtle stimuli that are missed by most people and have more intense experiences of these stimuli. This increased sensitivity is connected to the gene that influences a hormone called noradrenaline, the "stress" hormone, which also functions as a neurotransmitter in the brain that triggers our attention and reaction.

Here are some of the characteristics of extremely sensitive people.

They feel things more deeply. ...

They have more emotional reactions. ...

They are probably used to hearing the phrases "Don't take it too personally" and "Why are you so sensitive? ...

They prefer to exercise alone.

They capture the energies of people and environments more easily

They are extremely detailed.

They take longer to make decisions.

They are extremely well educated.

If these things seem to describe you, you may be an extremely sensitive person. This personality trait – which was first researched by Elaine N. Aron, Ph.D. in the early 1990s - is quite common, with up to one in five people having this characteristic.

According to some scholars, the most sensitive people are incredibly good at treating living beings in general. They capture and compare facial details more accurately.

How to use sensitivity to your advantage?

Repeat phrases like “I accept my sensitivity as a channel of expression” to yourself and see if you feel comfortable and confident saying this. Another way to understand this sensitivity is to pay attention to what your body says.

Emotional sensitivity is healthy, but at some point in your life, it can end up being harmful. Manage your own feelings so they are your allies, not enemies.

Balance your sensitivity with common sense, confidence and resilience so that you don't overreact to events your day to day life.

Do a self-assessment.

Explore your emotions

Avoid labeling yourself

Identify what triggers your sensitivity.

Allow yourself to feel your emotions

Recognize and challenge foregone conclusions.

Methods for self control

Relax

Learn assertive communication

Calm down before acting

Approach others and yourself with compassion

Be patient

If necessary, seek professional help from competent therapists
