You become what you think about. Throughout history, philosophers, historians, and even poets have written about the power of the mind. Your thoughts become your reality.
American writer Norman Vincent Peale said, “Change your thoughts and you will change your life. If you think negative, you will have negative results; if you think positive, you will have positive results. In three words, ‘believe and succeed.”
Why are we so negative?
Psychoanalysts say: "Our brain has a tendency to negativism. In the past our ancestors lived in a state of attention waiting for an attack. This posture often guaranteed their survival, but also left the brain in a constant state of alert, afraid, always waiting for something bad to happen. That way we condition our brains to always expect the worst."
When we have a pleasant time or when we achieve something, our joy and satisfaction tend to pass very quickly, creating a need for something more. Being dissatisfied is inherent to human beings.
But when something bad happens, this fact often impacts all areas of our life, like an avalanche, as if everything in our life is wrong, we blame ourselves, regret and imagine that the worst will still happen to us. . Thinking helps you program and make decisions. However, negative thinking generates stress, anxiety, depression and even paranoia. This kind of mindset drains your energy and prevents you from living in the here and now.
If negativity is not controlled, it becomes like a strong, scary, powerful ghost, taking over your mind. It is important to remember that most fears are not natural – they are acquired after we are born.
Powerful tips for leaving negativism behind…
Negativism is part of the “enemies” of the brain. We human beings possess an undeniable negativity. We are often plagued by a series of negative thoughts.
People who adopt a negative attitude towards life present a constant loss of self-esteem, a feeling of helplessness and pessimism, have a huge loss in physical, mental and emotional health, losing great opportunities for knowledge, achievements and growth.
Negative feelings limit us, take away our vitality. They create false mental images.
Negativism may have settled in us over time, but the important thing is that it is changeable. We can and should train our brain to develop a different path, this is called neuroplasticity, that is, neuronal paths that are created and maintained by practice, by always doing the same thing. Like the muscles that, in the gym, we develop one or a few at a time.
That's how our brain works too. All the new paths traced to reinforce positive emotions, positivity, "weaken" the negative paths made previously.
Is it possible to become a more optimistic person?
Simply repeating that you are an optimist or adopting clichés without changing your mindset and concrete attitudes will not make you an optimist. The negative mindset is built throughout a person's life and in order to change thought patterns our brain needs a lot of training, but of course it is possible to make this change, so it is necessary to practice daily, without giving up, and little by little. negativism will no longer occupy the main role in the individual's mind.
The best medicine for all this is self-respect, self-esteem, plus a dose of courage.
Here are tips on how to train your mind to have positive thoughts and compatible attitudes:
* The beauty of human beings lies in their unlimited capacity to change, adapt and, above all, overcome the obstacles they pose. If, unlike negativism, we manage to get in touch with optimism, we will realize that it favors the activation of the reward system, increasing satisfaction and allowing us to better deal with negative situations, in addition to increasing resilience and resistance to diseases.
* Think, communicate and feel positively: Remove negative words from your vocabulary.
* Always seek what is good for us in a balanced way, without exaggeration, it is the way to a healthy and happy life. And there is no single recipe, as we are all different. So what is good for one may not be good for another. Therefore, there is a need for this mind-body integration to find and understand our own measurements.
* Set a viable objective and believe that it will be achieved: Believe in your inner potential, in your inner wealth, in your power to change.
* Escape from sensationalist news
The negative mind tends to look for tragic news that only contributes to making the mind even more negative, try to look for news that will add value to your personal or professional life, it is not about alienating yourself, but looking for quality news.
* Practice physical activity - When we practice physical activity, our body releases endorphins, this substance brings a feeling of well-being in our body, in addition, the practice of exercises increases our self-esteem, feeling good about ourselves we will have a greater chance of seeing the world in a healthy way and positive.
* Cultivate good relationships - Distance yourself from toxic relationships. Set a limit when you have to deal with negative people, who complain about everything, criticize everything and everyone. If you want to improve the quality of your thoughts, try to live with positive people, who despite adversity try to focus on the solution and not just on the problems.
* Change focus = Thoughts don't change overnight, when you realize that negative thoughts are taking over your mind, try to minimize the situation.
* Work on emotional balance - Challenges and difficulties will always exist in everyone's lives, we have no control over everything, practice self-knowledge so that you are better prepared to deal with challenging moments.
* Practice gratitude and don't just look at the negative facts, observe all the good you have in your life.
* Take 100% responsibility for your thoughts and emotions. How you feel should be 100% your own responsibility. You are not a victim, and no one has power over you. Once you become responsible for the way you choose to respond to something, you begin to not get knocked down or thrown off your center so easily.
* Develop a positive mindset
* If you have difficulty facing negativity and becoming a positive person, seek help from competent professionals such as doctors and therapists to assist in this journey.
* Make a commitment to stay positive and to pass this on to others. One of the most valuable goals of my life and that of Tikun U Izun is to improve and transmit positivity and well-being to each and an increasing number of people.
